- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup (240ml) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup (60ml) ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, pickles
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Simmer the mixture on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the mixture simmers, toast the hamburger buns if desired.
- Serve the sloppy joe mixture on the toasted buns, and add any optional toppings if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
