Description
A classic Reuben sandwich made with layers of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing, all grilled between slices of rye bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices rye bread
- 8 ounces corned beef, sliced
- 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced
- 1 cup sauerkraut, drained
- 1/2 cup Russian dressing
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
- On the unbuttered side of 4 slices, layer slices of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut.
- Drizzle Russian dressing over the sauerkraut, then top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
- Place the sandwiches on the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can use marble rye bread.
- Make sure to drain the sauerkraut well to avoid a soggy sandwich.
- Feel free to customize the dressing; Thousand Island dressing can also be used.
