- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- as needed red gel food coloring
- as needed blue gel food coloring
- 2 cups vanilla frosting
- for decoration red, white, and blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain for the white layer.
- In the second bowl, add red gel food coloring until you reach your desired shade. In the third bowl, add blue gel food coloring to achieve the desired blue color.
- Scoop a tablespoon of the plain batter into each cupcake liner, followed by a tablespoon of red batter, and then a tablespoon of blue batter, layering them carefully.
- Use a toothpick or skewer to swirl the layers slightly for a marbled effect, if desired.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
- Once cooled, frost with vanilla frosting and top with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Notes
- For best results, use gel food coloring for vibrant colors.
- Make sure your butter is softened for easy mixing.
- You can use store-bought frosting if you’re short on time.
