  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

This Old Fashioned Peach Pie recipe features a flaky, buttery crust filled with juicy, sweet peaches, creating a classic dessert that evokes the warmth of summer. Perfect for family gatherings or a comforting treat any time of year, this pie is sure to impress with its homemade goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade pie crust)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the peaches evenly and let sit for about 15 minutes to allow the juices to develop.
  3. Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Trim any excess crust hanging over the edges.
  4. Pour the peach mixture into the pie crust, making sure to evenly distribute the peaches. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim, seal, and crimp the edges to your preference. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar for a nice finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to allow the filling to set. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe peaches for the best flavor. If using frozen peaches, make sure to thaw and drain them well to avoid excess liquid in the pie.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of vanilla extract to the peach filling.
  • If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them with strips of aluminum foil during baking.
