Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Food coloring (red, blue, green, etc.)
- Decorative sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let cool on wire racks.
- In a separate bowl, mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Divide into smaller bowls and add food coloring to create different colors.
- Once cookies are completely cool, decorate with icing and sprinkles to create nurse-themed designs like stethoscopes, nurse hats, or hearts.
Notes
- For best results, allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
- You can use cookie cutters to create fun shapes if desired.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to one week.
