Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box cake mix (any flavor, plus ingredients to prepare it)
- 1 container frosting (store-bought or homemade)
- Chocolate or candy melts (for coating)
- Lollipop sticks
- Sprinkles or decorations (optional)
- Non-stick cooking spray
Instructions
- Bake the cake according to package instructions. Allow it to cool completely.
- Crumble the cooled cake into a large mixing bowl until it resembles fine crumbs.
- Add frosting a little at a time, mixing until the mixture holds together but is not overly wet.
- Scoop out small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Insert a lollipop stick into each cake ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Refrigerate the cake pops for at least 30 minutes to set.
- Melt the chocolate or candy melts according to package instructions.
- Dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. If desired, decorate with sprinkles before the coating sets.
- Place the coated cake pops upright in a styrofoam block or a cake pop stand to dry completely.
- Once set, wrap in cellophane or serve on a decorative platter.
Notes
- For a more flavorful cake pop, consider using flavored frosting that complements the cake.
