Description
A creamy, rich dessert with a smooth caramel topping, traditional in Mexican cuisine.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns a golden brown color. Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
- In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the milk mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
- Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the flan comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert onto a plate.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon to the milk mixture.
- Ensure that the sugar is not burned while making the caramel, as it will affect the flavor.
