Description
A rich and creamy caramel custard dessert that melts in your mouth. This traditional Mexican dessert is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns golden brown, swirling the pan occasionally to ensure even melting. Once the sugar is caramelized, quickly pour it into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
- Place the baking dish inside a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the flan from the water bath and allow it to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, then invert it onto a serving plate to release the caramel.
Notes
- For an extra touch, you can add a pinch of cinnamon to the custard mixture.
- Flan can be made a day in advance for best results.
