  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

A rich and creamy caramel custard dessert that melts in your mouth. This traditional Mexican dessert is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns golden brown, swirling the pan occasionally to ensure even melting. Once the sugar is caramelized, quickly pour it into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  5. Place the baking dish inside a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the flan from the water bath and allow it to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, then invert it onto a serving plate to release the caramel.

Notes

  • For an extra touch, you can add a pinch of cinnamon to the custard mixture.
  • Flan can be made a day in advance for best results.
