Description

Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with unforgettable food that will leave a lasting impression. From grilled favorites to refreshing salads, this collection of recipes is perfect for your outdoor gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, firm variety — Granny Smith or Fuji
  • 2 cups granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon extract (optional)
  • 6 wooden candy apple sticks
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat

Instructions

  1. Set up your workspace: line a baking sheet with parchment paper and coat lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Have your sticked apples ready.
  2. Remove wax from apples by dipping them in boiling water for 5 seconds, then scrub dry with a towel. Insert a stick into each apple.
  3. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently until moistened and clip a candy thermometer to the pan.
  4. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a rolling boil without stirring. Use a wet pastry brush to wipe down sugar crystals on the sides.
  5. Boil until the thermometer reads between 300°F and 310°F. This takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Once it hits 300°F, remove from heat and stir in food coloring and cinnamon extract. Allow bubbles to subside for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Tilt the saucepan and dip each apple, letting excess syrup drip back for a few seconds. Place on prepared baking sheet.
  8. Let cool completely at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure syrup reaches 300°F for a hard coating.
  • Wait for bubbles to settle before dipping.
  • Keep apples dry and wax-free for better adhesion.
  • Store at room temperature, uncovered, for best texture.
  • Use alternatives to corn syrup if needed.
