Ingredients

- 2 cups Glutinous rice
- 1 cup Coconut milk
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- a pinch Salt
- for wrapping (optional) Banana leaves
Instructions
- Soak the glutinous rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the rice and combine it with coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Mix until well combined. If using, prepare banana leaves by softening them over heat.
- Spoon the mixture into small portions and wrap with banana leaves or place in a steamer.
- Steam for 30-45 minutes or until the mixture is set and firm.
- Remove from heat and let cool before serving.
Notes
- Kakanin can be served warm or at room temperature.
- You can add toppings such as grated coconut or latik (coconut curds) for extra flavor.
- Different variations of kakanin can include ube (purple yam) or pandan flavoring.
