Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Buttercream frosting (for decoration)
- Food coloring (in school colors)
- Graduation-themed decorations (like fondant or edible images)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, layer the cakes with buttercream frosting in between. Frost the top and sides of the cake with more buttercream.
- Color the remaining buttercream with food coloring according to the school’s colors and pipe decorations on the cake.
- Add any graduation-themed decorations to complete the look. Serve and enjoy your high school graduation cake!
Notes
- Customize the cake flavor by adding cocoa powder for a chocolate cake or using a lemon extract for a citrus flavor.
- Consider adding a layer of fruit filling between the cake layers for added flavor.
- Make sure to use a sturdy cake board if you are transporting the cake to a graduation party.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
