Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups frosting of your choice (buttercream or cream cheese recommended)
  • Fresh flowers (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  9. Decorate with fresh flowers as desired.

Notes

  • Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
  • Feel free to add food coloring to the frosting for a more festive look.
