Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Decorate the cooled cookies with royal icing using a piping bag. Add food coloring as desired to create graduation-themed designs.
Notes
- For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
- Use various food coloring to match the graduation theme or school colors.
