Description
Celebrate your graduate’s big day with this delicious and beautifully decorated graduation cake. Perfect for any graduation party!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 4 cups buttercream frosting
- Food coloring (optional for decoration)
- Graduation-themed cake topper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer with buttercream frosting. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
- Decorate with food coloring, if desired, and place a graduation-themed cake topper on top.
Notes
- For a more festive look, you can use different colors of frosting to match the graduate’s school colors.
- Make sure the cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
