  • 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Add chicken pieces and coat well. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
  2. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C).
  3. In a separate shallow dish, add the flour. Remove chicken from the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in flour, coating evenly.
  4. Place the breaded chicken pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray lightly with cooking spray to help achieve a crispy texture.
  5. Air fry for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
  6. Remove from the air fryer and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, you can double dredge the chicken by returning it to the buttermilk and then back to the flour before air frying.
  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste. You can add cayenne pepper for extra heat!
