Description
This air fryer fried chicken recipe gives you crispy, juicy chicken without the excess oil. Perfectly seasoned and easy to make, it’s a healthier alternative to traditional frying!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 chicken thighs, skin-on
- 4 chicken drumsticks, skin-on
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 1 hour, or overnight in the refrigerator for best results.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Remove chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s well coated.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the chicken pieces in the basket in a single layer, making sure they are not overcrowded.
- Spray the tops of the chicken with cooking spray to help them crisp up.
- Air fry the chicken at 380°F (193°C) for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
- Remove from the air fryer and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra crispy chicken, let the coated chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before air frying.
- Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your preference. Add herbs or spices that you enjoy!
- Leftover chicken can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
