French Dip Sandwich: The Secret to Perfectly Juicy Roast Beef

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

A classic French dip sandwich featuring tender, juicy roast beef piled high on a crusty baguette, served with a savory au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 4 crusty hoagie rolls or baguettes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Provolone or Swiss cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and garlic, and sauté until onions are translucent and golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10 minutes.
  3. While the broth is simmering, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Slice the hoagie rolls or baguettes in half and place them on a baking sheet.
  5. If using cheese, place slices on the bottom half of each roll, then pile the sliced roast beef on top.
  6. Toast the sandwiches in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.
  7. Serve the sandwiches with the warm au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • For added flavor, season the roast beef with additional spices or herbs before assembling the sandwich.
  • You can add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for extra toppings.
