Description
A classic French dip sandwich featuring tender, juicy roast beef piled high on a crusty baguette, served with a savory au jus for dipping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb roast beef, thinly sliced
- 4 crusty hoagie rolls or baguettes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Provolone or Swiss cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and garlic, and sauté until onions are translucent and golden, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10 minutes.
- While the broth is simmering, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the hoagie rolls or baguettes in half and place them on a baking sheet.
- If using cheese, place slices on the bottom half of each roll, then pile the sliced roast beef on top.
- Toast the sandwiches in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.
- Serve the sandwiches with the warm au jus for dipping.
Notes
- For added flavor, season the roast beef with additional spices or herbs before assembling the sandwich.
- You can add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for extra toppings.
