- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup lentils
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice and lentils until the water runs clear.
- Heat oil in a pot and add cumin seeds.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Mix in tomatoes, turmeric, and salt. Cook until tomatoes soften.
- Add lentils and rice, then pour in 4 cups of water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover. Cook for 20 minutes.
- Once done, fluff with a fork and sprinkle garam masala.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
- This recipe serves 4 people.
- You can substitute lentils with chickpeas.
- Adjust spices according to your taste.
