Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice and lentils until the water runs clear.
  2. Heat oil in a pot and add cumin seeds.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Mix in tomatoes, turmeric, and salt. Cook until tomatoes soften.
  5. Add lentils and rice, then pour in 4 cups of water.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover. Cook for 20 minutes.
  7. Once done, fluff with a fork and sprinkle garam masala.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
