  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

A classic Dutch oven dessert that combines juicy peaches with a fluffy biscuit topping, perfect for camping or baking at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh or canned peaches, sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your Dutch oven by placing it over medium heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup sugar.
  4. Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the peach mixture into the bottom of the preheated Dutch oven, then dollop the biscuit batter over the top, spreading it as evenly as possible.
  6. Cover the Dutch oven with its lid and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
