Description
A classic Dutch oven dessert that combines juicy peaches with a fluffy biscuit topping, perfect for camping or baking at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh or canned peaches, sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your Dutch oven by placing it over medium heat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed and set aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup sugar.
- Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Pour the peach mixture into the bottom of the preheated Dutch oven, then dollop the biscuit batter over the top, spreading it as evenly as possible.
- Cover the Dutch oven with its lid and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
