Classic Smash Burger: 5 Foolproof Steps for Juicy Perfection

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Juicy, flavorful smash burgers that are quick and easy to make, perfect for a backyard BBQ or a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion for toppings
  • Condiments of choice (ketchup, mustard, mayo)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape them into balls. Do not overwork the meat.
  3. Once the skillet or grill is hot, place the beef balls onto the surface. Use a spatula to smash each ball down flat, creating a patty. Press down firmly to ensure a good sear.
  4. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the edges are brown and crispy.
  6. Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on top of each one. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  7. While the burgers are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on the bottom half of the buns and adding your favorite toppings and condiments.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy your classic smash burgers!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder or onion powder to the beef before cooking.
  • Do not press down on the patties after smashing them; this can cause them to lose juices and become dry.
  • Feel free to customize toppings according to your preference.
