  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 medium ripe peaches, pitted and sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring often, until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a 9-inch round cake pan, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the bottom. Arrange the sliced peaches on top of the brown sugar.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. In another bowl, combine the granulated sugar and the browned butter. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter over the peaches in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature.
