Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 medium ripe peaches, pitted and sliced
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring often, until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a 9-inch round cake pan, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the bottom. Arrange the sliced peaches on top of the brown sugar.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, combine the granulated sugar and the browned butter. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter over the peaches in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider adding a splash of bourbon or rum to the batter.
- Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.
