- 4 cups beef broth

Instructions
- Brown the meat in a large pot over medium heat until it is well-seared.

- Add the barley, beef broth, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to the pot.

- Cover the pot and let it simmer for at least an hour, stirring occasionally.
- Check the consistency of the soup and adjust with more broth if necessary.
- Add fresh herbs like parsley near the end of cooking for added flavor.
- Remove the bay leaf before serving.
