Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage, crumbled
  • 6 slices bread, cubed (white or whole wheat)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, cooked sausage, and shredded cheese. Mix well and pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage mixture in the baking dish.
  6. If desired, sprinkle chopped green onions on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare this casserole the night before, just cover and refrigerate. Bake in the morning, adding an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time.
  • Feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables or cheese.
