Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 5 large eggs
- 4 cups buttercream frosting
- Food coloring (optional)
- Graduation-themed decorations (e.g., fondant, edible glitter, cake toppers)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture while alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, level the tops of the cakes if necessary. Place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of buttercream frosting on top.
- Add the second cake layer and repeat the process. Place the final layer on top.
- Crumb coat the entire cake with a thin layer of buttercream and refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
- Frost the cake with the remaining buttercream, smoothing the sides and top. If desired, divide the frosting and tint with food coloring for a more colorful design.
- Decorate the cake with graduation-themed decorations, such as fondant shapes, edible glitter, or custom cake toppers.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy your beautiful aesthetic graduation cake!
