Description

Celebrate graduation with this adorable bento-style cake, perfect for any sweet celebration. Layers of delicious cake and frosting come together to create a delightful treat that’s as festive as it is tasty.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Food coloring (optional, for decoration)
  • Graduation-themed decorations (e.g., small caps, diplomas)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, level the tops of the cakes if necessary and stack them with frosting in between.
  11. Cover the entire cake with a thin layer of frosting (crumb coat) and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  12. Frost the cake with your final layer of frosting and decorate with food coloring and graduation-themed decorations.

Notes

  • For a fun twist, consider adding sprinkles or edible glitter to the frosting.
  • Make sure to allow the cake to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Feel free to customize the flavor of the cake by adding cocoa powder for a chocolate version.
